This bridge was designed by Vern Brekke to
improve on some of the shortcomings of traditional adjustable bridges. The response to this new design has been phenomenal. Many mandolin players are retrofitting instruments
from other manufacturers and even vintage instruments with this bridge.
They report that both
tone and volume have been improved.
Comparison with traditional bridge:
1.) Saddle height of Brekke may be adjusted
under full string tension.
A traditional bridge requires loose
strings to adjust the string height.
2.) Brekke has a fully compensated saddle for
correct intonation.
Ebony saddles and wedges in an ebony
base give the most natural sound possible from an adjustable bridge.
Traditional bridges pass the string vibrations
through two brass screws.
On the Brekke bridge, the saddle-to-base surface
contact area is much greater for better sound & tone transmission to
the instrument top.
