From out of it's legendary past, Gibson has re-created the original of it's wonders - the banjo that started it all, the Style 3 Mastertone.
This banjo has a sound that demands attention.
Today's RB-3 is a reissue of its Grandfather and is among the preferred banjos among professionals today.
The new RB-3 Mastertone Banjo is a precise duplicate of the instrument that made the string music world pay attention back in the late 20's and early 30's.

Built of highest quality Mahogany for the neck and resonator, Rosewood for the fingerboard, a hard-rock 3-ply Maple rim, plus with the pre-war reissue Gibson tone ring, this banjo produces a full, bright yet warm sound with a rich sustain all the way up the neck.
The Fingerboard inlays are of genuine mother of pearl, which are designed with the same inlay as the original style 3 banjo, lending to it an air of elegant simplicity.

The Neck is of solid, aged and select mahogany, as is the resonator--- gracefully rounded to snuggle right into your hand.
The Resonator is interesting: just like the old timers it has the concentric rings on the back, inlaid and masterfully finished.
The Rim is a pre-war style 3-ply maple construction, which lends to the overall tone quality. The RB3 comes with the same tailpiece the original did: a Presto, securely fastened to the polished flange, and resting atop the great secret of all these reissue Gibsons: it has the SAME 20 HOLE TONE RING of the famed "pre-war" series, and we mean, the same. Same mineral composition, same dimensions, and same clear, bell like sound that made Gibson Mastertone the key word in five strings down to today.
So if you want to hold a piece of history in your hands, this is the one that started it all for this banjo making giant.
